Singapore Chinese Restaurant - Dim Sum & Cantonese Cuisine
Mouth Restaurant opened its second outlet on 9 August 2010, in remembrance of early Chinese immigrants to Singapore. The newly-opened Mouth Restaurant is located along South Bridge Road, where most of the early immigrants lived and eked out a living as coolies. It occupies five and a half shophouse space bordering China Square Central - an especially significant and meaningful location as these conservation shophouses used to be the living quarters of Chinese immigrants.
Mouth Restaurant was first established in the 1980s in Chinatown Point to serve the increasing number of Hong Kong immigrants leaving the territory for Singapore as a result of the impending 1997 handover from Britain to China. The Chinese name of Mouth Restaurant, Di Mao Guan, was derived from the Cantonese phrase Tae Mow Tong - a reference to the street food stalls in early Hong Kong popular with labourers who were used to squatting while having their meals. In Cantonese, Tae means "ground", Mow means "squat" and Tong refers to "stall". Mow also sounds like the English word "mouth" and hence, Mouth Restaurant was born.
You can find us at two different locations, each of which has its own unique flavor:
1. Mouth Restaurant, City Square Mall
Due to major retail renovation at Chinatown Point, the first Mouth Restaurant which has been operating there for past 25 years pulled down its shutters on 13 Oct 2011.
You can find us at City Square Mall which is conveniently located above the Farrer Park MRT station. We are located on level 4 opposite the cinema which will be ready by end of the year. The family friendly shopping mall is accessible by train, bus and taxi. The mall also offers free shuttle bus services from 5 convenient locations - Toa Payoh, Novena, Lavender, Balestier and Kallang Avenue. Parking is free on weekdays from 12pm to 2.30pm.
We look forward to serving you at our newly renovated restaurant, offering Mouth's handmade Hong Kong dim sum and authentic Cantonese cuisine that have long been lauded as one of the great dim sum , Peking Duck and Cantonese restaurants in Singapore since 1989.
2) Mouth Restaurant, China Square Central
An elegantly decorated restaurant, which offers 22 tables and VIP rooms, in a modern and plush setting, Mouth Restaurant at China Square Central is just one street away from our former outlet at Chinatown Point.
Located along the street level of South Bridge Road beside Great Eastern Insurance Building, the restaurant is a great venue for corporate dinners, birthday celebrations, cosy wedding banquets, ROM and yum cha.
For wedding couples looking for unconventional wedding venue, Mouth Restaurant at China Square Central is probably a good choice. It is accessible, as the bus stop is just a few steps away from the restaurant entrance and the basement carpark is directly below the restaurant. The restaurant is also located within walking distance between two MRT stations - Chinatown and Raffles Place.
